My travel life started in early 2014 when not long after graduating from university, I decided it was time to leave my little country in the Pacific and set off in search of adventure. This initial journey took me through Nepal & across India for two months (obviously I don’t muck around). It was during this trip that my love of travel truly blossomed and it has only continued to grow over the years since. I also discovered that travel allowed me to step out of my shell, and helped build up my introverted confidence!
After my travels through India I made my way to the UK where I based myself in London. Here it was much easier for me to take off on plenty of trips around Europe and sometimes beyond, while still being able to enjoy the creature comforts that I craved as a homebody . After three years of loving life in London I realised it was time for me to move on and experience something new. I packed up my belongings and made my way north, to see what Scotland had to offer – expecting to base myself in Edinburgh I somehow ended up living on the very remote Isle of Skye, which was obviously quite a change from the big city life I was use to!
Living on Skye was an incredible adventure, although it was not where I expected to be I’m so thankful to have spent a year experiencing life as a local there. I embraced the outdoor lifestyle, and soaked up the stunning scenery – while scoping out the best food + coffee on the island. I also meet a bunch of amazing travellers along the way (with many becoming life-long friends).
In early 2017 I spent a few months solo-travelling around Europe before I made the (difficult) decision to move back to my homeland of New Zealand. I was based there for just over a year, and during that time I worked in the events industry doing marketing and social media. It was lovely to be home in New Zealand, where I could spend time with family + friends and explore more of my own country. But my plans to settle down in NZ didn’t exactly work out as planned…
After just over one year in NZ I headed back to Europe! In February 2019 I packed up my (very small) suitcase once again and made my way to Italy, where I spent three months travelling the country and also volunteering at a small B&B in Florence. In April I moved to Germany, where I was based in Berlin. After a few months there I decided it wasn’t the place for me long-term and took off to spend a couple of months travelling in Italy and Scotland.
I’m now back ‘home’ in New Zealand, once again working in event marketing and social media. I’m excited to spend more time here exploring and growing this blog to help fellow introverts and homebodies have the chance to travel the world in a way that better suits their personality!
and, who know where I’ll end up next…
Growing up in a country as isolated as New Zealand travel wasn’t always easily accessible, but I didn’t let that hinder my dreams. From a very young age I knew travel was going to be a big part of my life, spending many hours planning out all the adventures I one day hoped to take. Seeing those dreams become a reality over the last few years is more than I could ever ask for.
I’m a big advocate of doing what you love, even if that means differing from the ‘norm’. For me, right now, that means travelling – seeing the world, experiencing new cultures, meeting new people and living a life I won’t regret!
