It seems like a life time ago now but way back in March, on-route for a trip home to New Zealand, I spent four days in Los Angeles. It was a place that was never huge on my travel bucket list so a stop-over on the way somewhere else seemed like a fantastic excuse to give the city a chance. I went in with low expectations, but it turns out I was very wrong to have pre-judged this city as somewhere I wouldn’t like.
Los Angeles surprised me in so many good ways, and I am already itching to get back there! Arriving from a cold and wet London I was greeted with sunshine and blue skies, very much appreciated after months of winter. I spent my days exploring the city, I saw some of the typical touristy sights but I also made an effort to get off the tourist trail and visit some of the areas that aren’t quite as popular with visitors. My days were mostly centred around cafes and foodies places, wandering from one to the other and getting to see neighbourhoods I might not have otherwise ventured to. I also discovered the Los Angeles public transport system isn’t anywhere near as terrible as they all say!
I am currently putting together a few posts/guides with plenty advice if you are planning to visit Los Angeles, so keep an eye out for those over the next couple of weeks. For now here are a few photos from my mini Californian adventure – I will definitely be back to explore more of this beautiful State!

Hi Emma,
I can’t say that Los Angeles was ever on my list either, but it looks lovely in your photos. Personally, I’ve only ever done the north of California, one extended trip from San Francisco all the way up to Oregon (and beyond). I loved the forests up there, they were so amazing, while San Francisco is on my “must visit again” list, so if I’m ever back in California, that’s where I’m likely to be, but now I’m shading towards heading south too to Los Angeles.
Thanks,
Brian.

It definitely surprised me that’s for sure, and I find myself eager to get back! The north of California is right up there on my list, hopefully next year I’ll get to make the trip (and maybe sneak some time in LA again!).
If you’re in California again I would definitely add a couple days to explore LA, so many great coffee spots to check out 😉
