Way back in March I took myself on a solo birthday trip to explore the Czech Republic, after spending some time in Prague I jumped on a train and headed to a wee town called Cesky Krumlov. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it turned out be one of the most wonderful places I have visited; full of history, character and charm, Cesky Krumlov was like stepping into a fairytale.
To be honest, it wasn’t quite as simple as jumping on a train but after a few hours, and a few mishaps, I finally made it to my destination – only to realise I had departed the bus a stop too early! Thankfully I had already booked myself into a hostel called Krumlov House and they had emailed me a lovely hand drawn map (that I was smart enough to print off), which allowed me to find my way down into the main part of town and eventually to the hostel, lying on the outskirts of the old town in a location perfect for exploring.
I didn’t have any friends or family who had visited Cesky Krumlov so I wasn’t able to get personal recommendations for hotels / hostels, which meant turning to my trusty friend, the internet. After reading MANY reviews I was pretty sure I had found the very best low-cost accommodation in town – which brings us back to Krumlov House. They advertise themselves not as a hostel but a house and immediately upon arriving I understood why. Greeted by the lovely staff member manning the house that day, I was made to feel at ease and comfortable right away. He went through a list of places to eat / visit / do, pointing these out on the map for me and gave me a run down of the house ‘rules’ (which mainly consisted of removing your shoes and being respectful of other guests, fair enough!).
My room was a six bed dorm, but unlike other hostels there were no bunk beds involved, and the room had it’s own bathroom. During my stay it was low season and I was lucky enough to basically have the entire room to myself for most of my stay. The room has a lovely view and despite the fact it is just off the living room area it was incredibly quiet, and to top it all off the beds were rather comfy.
There are also private bedrooms and smaller dorm room available in the house, so they have something to suit everyone’s needs. The common areas consist of a fully stocked kitchen, perfect if you are travelling on a budget or just like to cook your own food, there is a dining/chilling area and next to this a small yet cosy living room. For the internet lovers out, you will be happy to know there is free wifi in the hostel.
All the other guests staying at Krumlov House were very friendly, so if you are travelling alone it’s likely you will be able to make a few travel buddies while there!
My stay in Cesky Krumlov was beyond wonderful and the decision to stay at Krumlov House contributed towards that greatly; the location is perfect for exploring, the staff make you feel right at home and the cosy atmosphere is perfect for the fairytale setting of Cesky Krumlov. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting this perfect picture town!
