‘That would make the perfect cafe space’ is a very common phrase you will hear if you join my gal pals and I on one of our weekend adventure. We’ve spent so much time in coffee shops that we have a very clear idea of what we think makes a great cafe and when we see a beautiful building our minds immediately turn it into a place we could sit and drink coffee. By fate one of the very places I had uttered this sentence about has been transformed into a stunning space, and even better than that it happens to be a five minute walk from my flat – that right there is true joy.
Brick House has been on the Peckham / Dulwich scene for a while as a well-known sour dough bakery, but the wonderful cafe only opened up on Zenoria Street in East Dulwich a couple of months ago. Wandering down the quiet side street off Lordship Lane and stepping inside it became obvious I had just discovered my new ‘local’. The white brick walls, high beamed ceiling, large industrial windows combined with a perfectly balanced minimal interior is everything this girl dreams about in a cafe.
The food is slightly on the pricier side, but being that there isn’t much competition from any other similar cafes in the area it’s to be expected. If you’re after something sweet I recommend the Bostock, I’m still not entirely sure what this is but it’s quite the treat! Otherwise they have a good selection of cakes and savoury food (grilled cheese anyone?!) to choose from and after eyeing up some of the breakfast options (granola, avocado on toast and boiled eggs with soldiers) no doubt I will be back for an early morning visit sometime soon.
