Heading to Prague I was filled with excitement and anticipation, this was a city that many claim is the most beautiful in Europe, which is obviously a rather large statement to make. A city with immense history, beautiful architecture, stunning landscapes and fantastic… food?! Recommendations on food or where to find said food seemed to be distinctly lacking, and being a complete foodie this was quite concerning for me. I was left with nothing to do but put my research hat on and set myself the challenge of tracking down the very best food to ensure other food loving travellers were able to enjoy all that Prague has to offer with a satisfied stomach.
EMA Espresso Bar
EMA Espresso Bar, is a beautifully designed space that is all about making good coffee. Artisan type cafes seem to be on the rise in Prague and it’s great to see EMA setting such a high standard to follow. The light filled, Scandinavian inspired interior was buzzing with both the young and old whose laptops and notebooks dotted the large communal table set in the centre of the space, many were holding work meetings over coffee while others were simply catching up with friends. I managed to find a seat during each of my three visits but be warned that it can be a busy little place.
Open from 8.00am this is the perfect place to begin a day of exploring, settling myself in by one of the windows I found it was the perfect spot for mapping out my rough plan for the day while getting a bit of people watching in. My drink of choice is usually a flat white or latte and the barista served me up a pretty good one – probably excellent to most, but living in London and coming from a country that prides itself on great coffee it’s fair to say I can be a little fussy. Fussiness aside EMA is absolutely worth the visit for coffee lovers visiting or living in Prague, and if you feel like treating yourself give one of their delicious cakes a try.
Average cost of coffee: 50 CZK (£1.30)
Wifi: No (unfortunately!)
Cukr Kāva Limonāda
Cukr Kāva Limonāda perfectly filled my breakfast needs! After a morning of wandering the quiet streets and watching the sunrise I stumbled upon this wonderful restaurant. If you are after breakfast/brunch look no further! They have a menu with just the right amount of choices, from pancakes to your typical eggs and bacon (the pancakes are amazing!). They open at 9am and seem to be relatively quiet during the weekday breakfast period, I’d imagine they get quite busy over the weekend and for dinner.
The space is designed well, the staff are friendly and the food is great, add in the fact that it’s within easy walking distance from Charles Bridge but hidden enough to avoid being a tourist trap and I think we have ourselves a winner!
Wifi: No
Love Kido Bistro
Love Kido is an absolute gem, located a wee bit out of the way (but being that this is Prague, it’s pretty easy to get anywhere!) this relaxed eatery is worth the visit, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but it was a wonderful surprise! Set down a quiet residential street the space is so relaxing you will want to spent hours here, I was lucky enough to visit on a beautifully warm day so the doors were open and the sun was streaming in.
Czech food is generally quite heavy and focused on meat, bread, potatoes and beer, so it was very refreshing to see a cabinet filled with homemade salads, frittatas and freshly squeezed juices. This has to be one of the best meals I had in Prague and I highly recommend visiting; the staff were wonderful, there were plenty of tables to choose from and they even have a sweet dog to give you cuddles.
Wifi: Yes
Muj Salak Kavy
Another fantastic spot for breakfast, Muj Salak Kavy is a trendy coffee shop and eatery located in the upcoming neighbourhood of Karlin (Prague 8), a short walk from the city centre. The edgy interior and tasty brunch options draw in locals and tourists alike, with plenty to choose from on the menu there is something for everybody. I went with the Old Prague Ham and eggs which were great but I must admit there was a bit of menu envy when someone at the table next to me got the pancakes. Muj Salak Kavy is another place to head if you are seeking a decent cup of coffee, they use Doubleshot beans, which is a local Czech roaster and the baristas here seem to know what they’re doing.
If you’re looking for a more western style brunch menu, friendly staff, great coffee and a lovely space to eat in then Muj Salak Kavy is where you want to be.
Wifi: Yes
Lokal Dlouha
Lokal was a popular recommendation throughout my search so when the tour guide of a free walking tour also suggested it I knew it was the place to visit for dinner.
The food is very authentic and so is the atmosphere, the restaurant is full of locals (funny that), alongside the odd group of travellers and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. I’ll be honest, Czech food isn’t my favourite cuisine but I was happy with my meal here, it was cheap, enjoyable and filling. Also good to note, if beer is your thing you are in luck because it’s incredibly cheap here.
As with most restaurants and bars in the Czech Republic smoking is permitted inside, so be prepared for that. I believe you can request to sit in a non-smoking area, although I didn’t realise this at the time. (Update – looking at their website it looks like this now be a non-smoking restaurant).
I actually tried to go back here a second time with a group of new friends but it turns out to be a fairly busy place and we weren’t able to get a table, I suggest trying to get along a bit earlier or be prepared to wait.
Where to find them: Dlouhá 33, 110 00, Prague 1 (easy walking distance from the old town square)

Lokal Dlouha looks like an interesting cafe. It would be really strange (and unpleasant) in this day and age to have people smoking inside. Really enjoyed your blog and great photos.

Hello! So glad to hear you enjoy my blog.
I would absolutely recommend joining the blogging world, such a rewarding and fun hobby.
Currently I am on Blogger, but will be making the switch to WordPress as it offers more creative freedom.
Both are great options and I would say the best thing is to do some research to see which one suits your needs!
Good luck and remember to just have fun with it, it may seem daunting at first but you will learn as you go along!
